Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Scheduled for Dek Hockey Rink Print E-mail

Brentwood Borough Brentwood Council will formally open its new Dek Hockey Rink on Saturday, April 26th at noon with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a “First Slap Shot”. This project represents a unique public and private partnership and is the culmination of over four years of planning.Recognizing the need to address the significant recreational challenges in both our community and the surrounding area, Borough officials teamed up with residents and established a task force of local stakeholders to address these issues. In 2008, the Brentwood Park Initiative (BPI) was formed.  Since that time, the BPI and Borough Officials have worked to bring about continued and new efforts to create a positive atmosphere at Brentwood Borough Community Park. In 2008, the Borough of Brentwood received a $30,000 grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) to retain a consultant to prepare a Master Site Development Plan for its park and stadium. Two years later, the Borough received notice from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) that it was the recipient of a $438,000 grant to be used towards Phase I of the park improvement. Phase I consisted of the relocation of the existing tennis and basketball courts to the area of the former practice field, the construction of a Regulation Size Deck Hockey Rink, and the construction of two new ball fields.   In 2011, the Borough received news that it was awarded a $200,000 Grant from the Allegheny County Department of Economic Development’s Community Infrastructure & Tourism Fund to supplement state funding.

Brentwood Borough is inviting YOU to be on site to celebrate the opening of the Dek Hockey Rink and to witness our exciting charity hockey tournament. Bring your friends and enjoy the day! For questions or additional information, please contact Recreation Director Paula Simmons at 412-884-1500 Ext. 135.
