Officers Remind Drivers to Remain Vigilant During Halloween Print E-mail

The Brentwood Borough Police Department reminds motorists to be on the alert for pedestrians throughout the Halloween season. When trick-or-treaters or in the area, plan to travel at slower than the posted speed limit and consider utilizing your headlights during daylight hours to maximize pedestrian visibility. Drivers are also reminded that Pennsylvania law requires vehicles to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks; noncompliance can result in the issuance of a $50 fine.

Parents are encouraged to stop by the municipal building for a free Halloween safety packet, which includes a reflective bag, a glow-in-the-dark wristband, and a keychain flashlight. Supplies are limited. Our officers also remind parents to ensure that their child's costume is of a correct size and length so as to prevent trip and fall accidents. Additionally, keep a close eye on your little ones as they approach intersections or driveways.

In 2015, there were 375 collisions between automobiles and pedestrians in Allegheny County alone.  Through a combination of attentive driving and cautious walking, local residents can do their part to help eliminate these needless tragedies.
